Sweetheart Series

The Sweetheart Series is where craft brewing and distilling come together; beer inspired by gin and gin inspired by beer; different, but parts of what make Last Best unique.

Think of our beer as the silent hero, independent and steadfast. Our gin is a little wild–a free spirit who just wants to explore. Together the sum is greater than the parts.

This year we’re taking the series to uncharted territory of inspiration and exploration. Our theme is rooted in the history of film with the unlikely relationship between samurai films and spaghetti westerns. Each beer and gin release in the series will be inspired by the other, and named to build on this unlikely theme.

Calling all Western and Samurai movie fans! The Plaza Theatre and Last Best Brewing & Distilling are excited to partner for a unique mashup of culture, cinema, brewing and distilling! In celebration of the Last Best's next Sweetheart Series release - the Stranger Gin & Kuwabatake Berry Sour.

Join us on July 20th and 27th for special screenings of two films – the 1964 Spaghetti Western classic, A Fistful of Dollars (20th), and the 1961 Samurai classic, Yojimbo (27th), from legendary director Akira Kurosawa.

The event will feature beer and gin cocktails from Last Best's Sweetheart Series, where craft brewing and distilling come together; beer inspired by gin and gin inspired by beer - celebrating pieces of what makes Last Best unique. This year's series explores the relationship between Samurai films and Spaghetti Westerns - "West Meets East." Like Spaghetti Westerns were inspired by Samurai films, each gin and beer pulls flavours and ingredients from the far east to create new and unique styles.
